Sustainable Inks Now Recognised As Compostable
It is fair to say that the world is slowly transitioning into a more sustainable place. We have noticed this within print with fully recycled paper, potato starch polywrap and sustainable inks. We are always keen to find new ways for our customers to improve their corporate responsibilities.

HP Indigo Electroinks Recognised For Their Compostability
TUV Austria are a standards certification body. They recently presented that HP’s eco friendly ink, Electroinks, are recognised for their compostability. The award notices HP Indigo Electroinks are biodegradable in line with the European EN 13432 guidelines. This is a great first step for the uptake of sustainable inks.
According to the article, this was measured by some pass and fail tests in which a minimum standard had to be obtained. This included aspects such as low levels of elements of zinc, copper, nickel and mercury.
What Does This Mean For Eco Friendly Inks & Printing?
Consumers are becoming ever conscious of looking for goods that are recyclable. The fact HP Indigo inks are now seen as compostable is a great recognition for print. Not only this but is a great way of further supporting society’s eco shift.
To us it poses a wider social question. Can paper be domestically recycled via the compost disposal? It may be something that councils and governing bodies look into in the coming years.
