VAS Analysis - Print Design With Purpose
You can have the best product in the world but if no one knows or is interested about it, who is going to take notice? We underestimate the impact that strategy and design has on our ability to effectively showcase our products / services and is an integral part to any business.
With this, it is essential that a company’s creative and design efforts are working as hard as they can! Visual Attention Software (VAS) is a unique tool that aims to aid both new and existing designs get the most.
About The Tool
VAS was created by tech giants 3M and truly is an intuitive tool aimed and looking at how consumers respond to different stimuli. In the context of print, packaging, POS, banners etc. It takes into consideration elements like colour, contrast, edges, white space (distance between images and text), type of media, call to action location and many more. From all of this an algorithm styles tool was built taking into account how people respond to these different factors within the first 3-5 seconds from viewing.
Whether you are a designer with 20 years under your belt a fresh faced marketing assistant, VAS will open your eyes to elements you may not have even thought about considering.

Getting Your Design Right First Time
Starting from scratch can be one of the hardest things. It is always easier to grow from an existing campaign / idea than to come up with a new one from the beginning.
New to print and want some reassurance that you are doing the core things correctly? VAS will point you in the right direction and can help shape your creative before you head to print! Some businesses have worked tirelessly to get the results they do through extensive trials and testing. reduce the time it takes to getting your design and messaging nailed down!
Feel free to send us your first drafts and we would love to analyse this for free for you!
Perfecting Existing Print Projects
“We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve” (Bill Gates). We all fall into consistency, routine and standard ways fo working. This is bound to happen!
What VAS will give you is an alternative way of viewing your campaigns and projects, beyond just how ‘something looks’. It will give you insight on how the consumer is likely to be viewing your print. Knowing this will allow you to make the subtle changes that can improve your ROI, response rates and brand perception.

The Analysis & Each Of Their Benefits
Areas Of Interest
Here you get to handpick the areas of the design that you wish to focus on are most concerned about consumers seeing. This could be the logo, your brand or the call to action. By knowing how the areas you WANT to be seen are being viewed, can show how prominent they appear at first glance.
Heatmap
In an ideal world your design will be viewed in its entirety. The heatmap feature gives you the knowledge of how much of your design is being viewed. not only that but also shows the ‘hotspots’ where the map begins to show the warmer colours.
Regions
We see this the region analysis as an extension of the heatmap. Whilst the heatmap focuses on the coverage, here the regions will focus more on the hotspot areas. This will allow you to make sure that the key components of your design are in, or easy for the eye to navigate to.
Visual Sequence
We naturally read from top to bottom and from left to right (based on general UK population) and this should be taken into account when structuring the design. Want to tell a story or make sure all the components of your print are viewed? The visual sequence tool can do just that!
